Thinking of Refreshing Your Website? Start Here.

It’s tempting, isn’t it? Your website feels outdated, the design is tired and you’re ready for a fresh new look. But before you brief a designer, stop. A rushed redesign can cost you twice — once in design fees, then again when you realise it doesn’t convert.

Your website isn’t just an online brochure. It’s the digital front door to your business. And like any front door, it should feel welcoming, clear, and lead people to exactly where you want them to go.

Here’s the checklist I walk through with clients before a redesign.

1. Take Stock of Your Brand

Does your website reflect who you are today? Look at your logo, colours, tone of voice and imagery. If they feel outdated or inconsistent, you may need a brand refresh before you redesign.

2. Define THE ROLE OF YOUR WEBSITE

Your website should serve a purpose. Is it there to:

  • Generate leads?

  • Sell products?

  • Educate customers?

  • Build credibility?

Knowing its role will guide every design, copy and functionality decision.

💡 Quick Win: Write down the #1 action you want visitors to take (call, buy, subscribe) and make sure it’s front and centre.

3. Map the Customer Journey

Put yourself in your customer’s shoes. Can they find what they need quickly? Do you answer their biggest questions before they have to ask? The smoother their journey, the higher your conversion rates.

4. Think Beyond Pretty Design

A beautiful website that doesn’t generate leads or sales is just an expensive brochure. Pair design with:

  • Strong copy

  • Clear calls-to-action

  • Conversion tracking

Refreshing your website is a chance to sharpen your brand and create a site that works harder for you. A little planning upfront saves money, builds trust with your audience and gets results.
